07 Des KRITERIA DAN STANDAR ISPO UNTUK PERUSAHAAN BESAR MAUPUN KECIL

PT. MUTUAGUNG LESTARI[:en]Last Monday, Oct.3rd at the office of the Coordinating Minister for Economics, a coordinate meeting between the Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita and Minister of Industries Airlangga Hartarto and also representatives from both Ministries was held. The meeting discussed efforts to defense the existence and usages of long term palm oil and to implement its sustainability certification system or the Indonesian Sustainability Palm Oil (ISPO) as the only certification system used in sustainable plantation management.
Recipients of the ISPO certificates until now are big companies, and a clear performance and standards for small holders are needed so that people who owned small areas of palm oil plantations could also be certificated. “ISPO is in connection with establishment, (therefore), we should create the standards: what kind for small holders and what kind of standard for big companies.
The Trade Minister added that although we intended to involve several components, we should be careful to include independent monitoring personnel in the institutional structure who have the authority to issue the ISPO certificate. “The Government should be independent in the criteria statement.” He said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Industries said that we should refer to a sustainable standard which is guided by the United Nations. Besides, Mr. Airlangga said: “Accreditations to companies would be better be executed by independent auditors.”
The Coordinating Minister Darmin Nasution added that we should study palm oil standards which were already used by other nations as the ISPO standard should be in accordance with international standards basic principles.
PT Mutuagung Lestari is experienced in the field of certifications since 1990 has become a first Certification Institution in Indonesia appointed by Ministry of Agriculture and ISPO Committee as a Principal Certification Institution and ISPO Criteria is set to assist in forming sustainable palm tree plantations with its commitments to execute services in ISPO certificating for big and small companies which are mentioned by the Coordinating Minister Darmin Nasution earlier: people owning small areas of palm tree plantations will also be certified.
